The C.A.F.A.C. is sponsoring two upcoming arts events that we are inviting friends
in surrounding communities to attend and/or take part in in various artistic ways.
The first is "Celebration of Art", a selection of workshops for children ages 3
to 13, being held Sat., June 28th. and Sun., June 29th., 10 a.m. to 4:30 pm., at
the Port Moody Rec Centre, 300 Ioco Rd. Children will have the opportunity to
express their imaginations in workshops which include printmaking, creative writing,
poster making, banners, heritage games and numerous other kinds of arts expressions.
Fee per workshop is $3. Phone the Arts COuncil Office at 931-8255 for registration
information.
The second event is the Coquitlam Stone Sculpture Symposium. From June 1 to Sept.
1 in Blue Mountain Park, 3 sculptors and their 3 assistants will be turning huge
chunks of stone into beautiful works of art, works which will remain in the park
permanently for the appreciation of the public.
We urge businesses, individuals and community groups to support this ambitious
project. A donation of $50 will receive recognition with the name of the donor
being carved in stone. Donations of $500 will be honored with a stone plaque. A
$5000 donation will be recognized with a bronze plaque mounted near the sculpture
of the donor's choice.
In addition, arts and crafts fairs will-be held each Sat. and Sun. from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. for the duration of the Symposium. Those wishing to sell should register
with sculptor Carl Sam, on site, the morning of your chosen sale day. Please bring
own tables and chairs. Selling fee is $10, with all fees supporting the Symposium.
Besides arts and crafts sales, performance of any kind is welcome on any day at
the park while the Symposium is taking place. Anyone wishing to perform at anytime
throughout the Symposium can simply go to Blue Mt. Park and "'do your thing.'' Music,
drama, readings and athletic displays are all encouraged.
