The organizations's Executive Director,

Byard Wood, announced that Quebec educators
have agreed to try to get a "space education
program" worked into the regular school curri-
culum in the home province of Marc Garneau,
Canada's first man in space.

"This is a very exciting development," Wood
explained, "because we can approach other
provinces now." The goal is to include "space
studies " in all the schools across the nation
so that the next generation of Canadians can
take advantage of Canada's unique access to
the United States multi-billion-dollar space
program.

Recruitment Drive at New West Space Station

With the blessing of the National Research
Council, Young Astronauts Canada aims to
“capitalize upon the excitement of space
exploration and development to encourage
young people to lift their sights to the specta-
cular promise of astronautics.

At the New West Space Station - a simulated
environment created inside New Westminster's
Douglas College - Young Astronauts will be
launching a major recruitment drive. They

plan to arrange showings of the amazing
"Omnimax" film taken from the U.S. space
shuttle, which gives a 360-degree view of the
earth from orbit, described by astronaut Garneau
as "the next best thing to being there."

The involvment of the Young Astronauts in the
Space Station festival "means we will be offering
the real stuff of the Space Age," says Alan Clapp,
organizer of the “other worldly fair" located at
the end of the SkyTrain ride. "Your kids will

be able to join an organization dedicated to
getting them into space."

He noted that tickets for Seattle-based Society
Expeditions’ planned commerical passenger
flights into orbit, starting in 1992, will also be
on sale at the Space Station.
