My academic research is focused on radicalization, terrorist/extremist organizations, and the online capacities and tactics of a variety of modern extremist movements. Broadly speaking, my research has primarily focused on the online media and propaganda campaigns and communication tactics of extremist organizations and movements including the so-called Islamic State, the Far-Right, and gender-based movements. More specifically I apply a perspective based in the traditions of phenomenology, social movement theory, and linguistic analysis in an effort to shed light on how and why radicalization occurs.
