Building sustainable campuses: Douglas College’s role in sustainable development

The purpose of this project is to explore the interconnection between the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Douglas College’s initiatives for reducing environmental impact and informing sustainable development practices, processes, and policies. Utilizing secondary data, an analysis of the UN SDGS and Douglas College’s Strategic Plan for 2020-2025 as well as sociological sources, this research seeks to understand how these initiatives can contribute to building sustainable campuses while using 808 Royal as a case study. The central concepts of reducing resource consumption and promoting sustainable practices while meeting the needs of a growing economy are to be applied to the case of Douglas College to influence climate action initiatives. The goal of this project is to examine Douglas College’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of meeting the SDGs while looking at outside sources to see how we can make our campus more sustainable.
